What Is the 369 Method?

Three in the morning, six in the afternoon, nine at night. That's the whole method — and the reason it spread faster than any manifestation practice before it.

The short answer

The 369 method is a daily manifestation routine. You pick one thing you want, phrase it as a short present-tense statement, and repeat that statement three times in the morning, six times in the afternoon, and nine times before bed. Most people write it in a journal. Some say it out loud. You repeat the cycle every day until it lands — commonly for 33 or 45 days.

That's it. There is no secret step, no paid course, nothing you're missing. The difficulty of the 369 method is not complexity — it's consistency. Eighteen repetitions a day, split across three moments you have to actually remember, is where nearly everyone falls off.

Where the numbers come from

The 369 method leans on Nikola Tesla, the inventor who was famously preoccupied with the numbers 3, 6 and 9. He structured parts of his daily life around threes, and a line widely attributed to him has become the practice's tagline.

If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have a key to the universe.Attributed to Nikola Tesla

Worth being honest here: that quote has never been traced to a verified Tesla source, and Tesla never described anything resembling a manifestation routine. The numbers also echo older ideas that predate him by centuries. In numerology, 3 is associated with creation, creativity, and self-expression; 6 with harmony, balance, and nurturing; 9 with completion, fulfilment, and letting go. Read as a sequence, the three numbers sketch an arc — begin a thing, sustain it, finish it — which is why the practice maps them onto morning, afternoon, and night.

The modern 369 method itself is recent. It surfaced on TikTok around 2020, where creators combined Tesla's numbers with the older law-of-attraction habit of writing affirmations by hand, and it spread from there. So the lineage is real but loose. The practice earns its keep on what it does to your attention, not on physics.

What each number is actually for

Strip away the numerology and the structure is doing something quite practical — it front-loads, sustains, and closes your day with the same thought.

  • 3 in the morning — you name what you want before the day names it for you. Short, so it's easy to keep.
  • 6 in the afternoon — the hardest slot, and the point. It interrupts the middle of the day, the stretch where your attention drifts furthest from what you said you wanted.
  • 9 at night — the longest pass, sitting closest to sleep, when repetition tends to stick.

Eighteen repetitions is also just a lot of contact with one sentence. After a week you can't say it without noticing whether you believe it — and that noticing is most of the work.

Does it have to be written?

Writing is the traditional format and it's the most common by a distance. But saying it aloud has one advantage writing doesn't: you hear yourself. Your own voice claiming something is harder to sleepwalk through than your hand copying a line for the fourteenth time.

The failure mode of written 369 is autopilot — the words go onto the page and nowhere near your attention. If you've been journaling it for a week and feel nothing, switch to speaking it for a few days.

Common questions

What is the 369 method in simple terms?
Write or say one present-tense intention three times in the morning, six times in the afternoon, and nine times at night, every day. That's the entire practice.
Did Nikola Tesla invent the 369 method?
No. Tesla was preoccupied with the numbers 3, 6 and 9, but he never described a manifestation routine, and the quote about them being 'a key to the universe' has never been verified. The 369 method itself emerged on TikTok around 2020.
What do the numbers 3, 6 and 9 mean in the 369 method?
In numerology, 3 stands for creation and self-expression, 6 for harmony and balance, and 9 for completion and letting go. They're symbolic conventions rather than findings — as a sequence they sketch beginning, sustaining, and finishing, which the practice maps onto morning, afternoon, and night.
How long do you do the 369 method for?
Most people run it for 33 days or 45 days, then reassess. Both cycles are conventions rather than rules — what matters is doing it daily long enough to notice a change in how you think about the goal.
